PIA receives 2000 applications under restructuring for separation

Pakistan International Airlines has received applications from 2,000 employees to   voluntarily resign.  
The PIA had introduced a voluntary retirement scheme to reduce the financial burden on the company, which expired on December 31.  
According to a PIA spokesperson, "2,000 employees have submitted applications to the PIA administration to avail this scheme."  
It may be recalled that earlier PIA had given a deadline of December 22 to the employees for voluntary separation which was later extended.  
As of December 22, 1,400 employees had applied to avail the benefits of the scheme. 
PIA Chief Executive Officer Arshad Malik has approved the dismissal of 3,500 employees from the PIA to bring about reforms in the organization, and a scheme for employees who want to leave voluntarily before that Wa.  
Under the scheme, employees will be paid a lump sum including graduation, provident fund, accumulated leave, medical allowance and pension up to the age of 65.  
The Economic Co-ordination Committee has allocated Rs. 12 billion for this scheme.  
Following the voluntary separation scheme, the company is also expected to make performance-based layoffs to reduce the employee burden.  
PIA claims that under this scheme, the company will save Rs 4 billion annually.
